Impressive! Right? This expert has passed the difficult NCIDQ exam and is a member of both the U.S. Green Building Council and Build It Green. As the Principal and Founder of Path Design, Hulan believes that rather than being a fad that green design is “a fundamental change in the way interior design and architecture are approached. The aim is to create dwellings, and other man-made environments, which reduce or eliminate the use of unhealthy materials, minimize ecological impact, and relate people with the natural world around them.” Perhaps you will want to request some of these items or adapt some ideas for your own use?

Kudos and heads up to fashion designer, Masako Oka. Oka has been designed eco-friendly clothes for more than a decade. An interest in nature and earth friendly and reusable fabrics, spurred her to create her first sustainable fashion in 1994. Shortly after 1994, I purchased my first “pleather” coat and another made from recycled garbage bags. Yes, garbage bags: I still have it! If any of you can remember that era, it was truly difficult finding vegetarian and/or sustainable clothes. Fortunately for me, I lived in the “eco-positive” Bay Area. You’ve heard this all before, right? So, back to Masako Oka, a pioneer in ecological fashion, the true heroine here.

Materials used include soybeans, Japanese paper, bamboo and a new threadlike material developed from cornstarch. Here is a video from a fairly recent show in Mexico for the Spring/Summer 2009 season.

Have you checked outWooden Duck? Located in Berkeley, CA and formed in 1995, you can find furniture made from recycled and repurposed trees from around the globe. Much of the furniture is recycled furniture from Indonesia. The look of the each is piece is slightly rustic and arts and crafts. A factory is in Berkeley, and a second location is in San Rafael.
