About
Hello, thank you for visiting les violettes a guide for the vegetarian lifestyle. Most vegetarians sites focus on recipes or veganism, but here at les violettes vegetarians of all stripes are welcome (I’m lacto-ovo). Recipes are included yet more attention is given to the other aspects of vegetarianism. Why? Because being a vegetarian is more than about food; it’s about making all sorts of choices from clothing, design, social issues, work and consumer products to environmental concerns, social justice and animal rights.
Since I love art and design, expect to see photos of nature in a primarily urban setting. How can you have vegetarianism without nature? Also, expect to find consumer products suitable for vegetarians. Some I’ve tried personally; others I haven’t. Speaking of consumer products, this can be a tough area. Which do you choose? the animal-free sweater that may be made in a sweatshop with countless pesticides or the one that is made from an animal product that is fair trade certified, sustainable and 100% organic? To keep things somewhat suitable, animal products are allowed ONLY if they are fair trade, organic or refurbished. Yes, this is a tough choice and one that I haven’t been able to fully resolve. It’s not always easy to tell what conditions an item is manufactured under unless it is specifically stated. Ideally, all items would be cruelty-free, fair trade and sustainable. Feel free to read posts old and new alike. Comments and questions are always welcome.
